Susanna Lea's road to artistry - to becoming "ZannaLea" has paralleled her personal journey. Once an attorney (no comment!), her life was upended as undiagnosed disabilities tanked her career; the collapse of a long-term marriage was not far behind. She reinvented herself, but not by design or intention. The artist in her emerged on its own volition. While traveling overseas with friends in 2015, she found herself obsessed with taking photos. But not of the standard stuff. She was captivated by the colors and geometry of nature. Her friends began complaining when what should have been a 20-minute walk would take an hour and a half! When she returned home, she bought a good camera and enrolled in a digital photography class, where she was introduced to photoshop. She had to quit because the teacher did not appreciate that her submissions looked like drawings or paintings rather than photos. But she knew her work was good. So she decided to try to sell it at a small local monthly craft fair. Her work was appreciated, but wall art at craft fairs... not the best seller. So she started putting her work on functional items like bags, scarves, clocks - and she was in business! The sales got better and the art festivals got larger. Then, in 2021, she was awarded a spot at the 4-month long apple festival known as "Apple Hill," and she found herself with a fixed-location shop for a third of the year. On a whim, she introduced umbrellas into her line, and was astonished at their popularity in a region of historic drought! She's thrilled to be introducing them on Etsy... and has expanded her lines to now include gorgeous packs and bags. Welcome to ZannaLea's world - There will definitely be more to come!
